What artists do we sign?

WAP Publishing filters the content to ensure only ‘quality’ music is offered to our clients. We do not sell short sound-clips, sound effects, or badly recorded tracks. Tracks submitted must have a good quality recording standard. In terms of artist types, we sign all types of music including soloists, bands, choirs, even orchestras. We cover every genre, including pop, rock, jazz, dance, country, classic, hip-hop, contemporary etc. When a client is creating an advert, TV show or film, there is no limit to the type of material they may require and we are constantly surprised! You will also increase your chance of use if you can supply instrumental only tracks as well as vocal tracks for the same song.

Does it cost me to sign?

No. We charge no signing fees.

How do you earn?

We take a 50% share in any revenue that we receive from tracks signed with us. This includes ‘sync’ fees and the Publishers share of any Performing Rights fees. You keep 100% of the Writers share of Performing Rights, which are collected by a PRO (Performing Rights Organisation) and paid directly to you. It is your responsibility to register with a PRO, if you wish to receive this.

Do you require exclusivity?

No. You can do whatever you want with your music, other than sign an exclusive publishing agreement elsewhere.

Do you re-title songs?

Yes. As a publisher, we re-title all tracks and register them under our own name, purely so that we can report usage and track royalty payments.

What material can you not submit?

You are declaring that all the material is fully original when it is submitted and that you are the owner. Tracks therefore cannot contain samples or be covers unless you have written consent of the original owner. Tracks can only be submitted if all the parties who own rights sign, so unless you tell us otherwise and provide details you are declaring you are the sole writer and owner of the track and are legally indemnifying us to that effect.

How should material be formatted?

We accept .mp3s for initial submissions but may request final content to be in an uncompressed format, such as .wav, .aif, 16 bit or 48KHz format as required.

How do I increase my chances of my music being used?

Songs that are the best quality and have the most accurate descriptions will be more likely to be selected, since our clients will find your songs quickly and appreciate what they find. That is why we ask you to submit the ‘tags’ for your songs into the database, since you know the songs best. Obviously the more tracks you have in the database the greater chance of success.
